The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to oversee the faculty development mission of the Center that includes goal setting, strategic planning, and operational effectiveness. This position will be directly responsible for the following: Planning and delivering key initiatives of the Center, including oversight for design and implementation of customized workshops and programs. Analysis of long-range plans and decision impacts; Interaction with administrators and various campus units to focus on Center initiatives; Confidential consulting and intervention services to faculty; Oversight for website, digital and print library, and publications in association with the Center (e.g., newsletter, teaching tips, articles). Supervision of graduate student assistants and interns, and undergraduate scholars. Preparation of an annual budget for the Center, budget requests and financial management. The Department of History at the University of Tennessee seeks to hire a full-time staff member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Editor for The Correspondence of James K. Polk project. Eleven volumes covering 1846-49 remains to be completed. The editor will be involved in all aspects of the preparation of the project's final volumes. Terminal degree holders will also be considered for non-tenurable professional rank in the Department of History commensurate with experience and qualifications, and may thus have opportunity to participate in graduate training and collegial affairs. Ideally, candidates will have a PhD in U.S. History and a record of pertinent scholarship consisting of publications and/or historical editing experience.
