College of Agriculture

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Plant Sciences Department- The successful candidate will establish a nationally recognized extension and research program in sustainable landscape horticulture related to ornamental production and management. The position will provide innovative and comprehensive support for research, promotion and adoption of best practices (BMPs) for landscape and commercial ornamental plant production and management, including increased use of low-input, under-utilized and improved pest- and disease-resistant ornamental and native plants. The successful program will include design and delivery of strategies to enhance sustainability and efficiency in ornamental production systems. Major focal areas can emphasize optimization of nutrient inputs, water-use and landscape management efficiencies. Other areas of expertise may include quantification and development of novel ornamental plants, alternatives for potentially invasive plant selections and ornamental plant production environments, The successful candidate will provide leadership in increasing commercial grower, landscape professional and consumer awareness and interest in sustainability for landscapes and ornamental production systems while interacting and working cooperatively with scientists in the Institute of Agriculture, other universities, government agencies and private companies. The candidate will be expected to aggressively seek extramural funding, to publish and present research findings and to disseminate Extension information through scholarly articles, web resources, news releases and other Extension outlets. Opportunities exist for active participation in classroom teaching, graduate student mentoring and training programs. The candidate will be expected to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs that optimize commercial production and landscape management for ornamental plants and lead to increased environmental sustainability in landscapes and production facilities. Supporting greenhouse and nursery facilities for the program will be located on the Knoxville Campus of The University of Tennessee's Institute of Agriculture. The candidate should have a PhD in Horticulture, Crop Science or a related plant science or sustainable agriculture discipline. Experience and/or specialized training in horticultural plant production systems or post-harvest physiology, commercial or professional landscape management, urban forestry or environmental sustainability/low-input landscapes are highly desired. Post-doctoral research and/or extension/outreach experience is desired. Familiarity with the Sustainability Sites Initiative for LEED certification or benchmarking for landscape sustainability is encouraged. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - Biosystems Engineering & Soil Science- Responsibilities of this position include: developing and leading a nationally recognized integrated extension and research program in one of the following areas: Sustainable energy utilization which may include expertise in areas such as alternative energy sources; energy recovery and conservation and harvesting, storage and transportation of biomass or Sustainable water resources which may include expertise in areas such as water recycling and reuse; storm water runoff and capture; management of groundwater and surface water resources; and domestic, industrial and agricultural water demand; publish in recognized peer-reviewed journals, extension publications and related outlets for professional peers and others. Successfully obtain external funding from government and private sources in support of extension and research programs. Participate in interdisciplinary activities throughout the department, Institute of Agriculture and university. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - Biosystems Engineering & Soil- Responsibilities for this faculty position are: To develop a nationally recognized research program that also supports extension and knowledge transfer. Efforts will be focused on predicting biological system responses to environmental stimuli. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/PROFESSOR - Nimbios- As part of a major initiative associated with the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville seeks an outstanding scientist with a strong record of research in the mathematics and modeling of animal infectious diseases, to start August 1, 2010. * ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - Architecture- The College of Architecture and Design Interior Design Program seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank commencing Fall 2010. The Interior Design Program is accredited by CIDA and offers a four-year undergraduate degree in Interior Design. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - School of Music- Nine-month tenure-track appointment beginning Fall Semester, 2010. Doctorate required (ABD considered, but must be completed by starting date of 8-1-10). Proven successful experience as a choral director at the college/university level preferred. At least three years successful public school experience and a commitment to teacher training are required. Ability to teach courses in vocal music education is required. Demonstrated abilities in organization and communication and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues in the field are necessary. Commitment to preparing high quality pre-service music educators in a collaborative and collegial teaching and learning environment is necessary. This position is a critical blend between choral conducting and vocal music methods. ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR RESEARCH, GRADUATE STUDIES & FACILITIES - Arts and Sciences Administration- The Associate Dean for Research, Graduate Studies, and Facilities, in concert with the Dean and other Associate Deans, deliberates upon and establishes general College policy, short and long term planning goals, and allocation of resources to assure effective operation of programs within the College. Specific responsibilities of this position are divided into three main areas: research, facilities, and graduate studies. Research-related duties include communication with department heads concerning research opportunities; review and approval of the financial commitments of grant and contract proposals; negotiating with investigators and campus administration on questions of cost-sharing; administration of the College’s Research Incentive Fund; coordination and oversight of Instructional Technology Fees, Faculty and Staff Computer Upgrades, Professional Development Awards, and other annual research-related opportunities; and collection of College Scholarly Output reports. Facilities-related duties include working with the campus administration on the assignment of classroom, office, and laboratory space used for College activities; maintaining the College Facilities Inventory; participating in the planning for space renovation, including the temporary housing of units during renovations; and overseeing the submission of equipment requests to the central administration. Duties related to Graduate Studies include serving as Associate Dean for Graduate Education, excluding curricular development, and managing the College’s role in awarding graduate student travel grants. RESEARCH ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering- The candidate will be expected to play a leadership role in implementing and expanding a new research laboratory devoted to studies of material applications in electrochemical devices in the Zawodzinski research group. Duties and responsibilities will include carrying out research, working to develop laboratory methods and infrastructure, assisting in guiding and mentoring students and post-docs, oversight of group computing, assisting and eventually leading some proposal development. DEAN - College of Allied Health Sciences (Memphis)- The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) seeks nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences. Founded in 1972, the College is located on a major health science center campus with five other colleges (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Graduate Health Sciences). College of Veterinary Medicine

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - Small Animal Clinical Sciences- The College is expanding its teaching, research and service activities in veterinary behavior and invites applications for a full-time, clinical or tenure-track appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality instruction in domestic animal behavior to professional (DVM) and graduate students/residents, develop an outpatient companion animal behavior service and an independent, externally-funded research program. Research activity involving companion animal behaviors that jeopardize the likelihood of the animal staying in a home is desired and would be in line with the strategic plan of the Department to enhance the College's community outreach in animal welfare. Teaching activity will include a core introductory course in animal behavior for professional students, elective course(s) in the professional curriculum and assistance with a clinical rotation for senior professional students. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in the graduate program through supervision of residents and/or graduate students at the MS, PhD and post doctoral level. The incumbent will represent the College on animal behavior issues at the local, state, national and international levels. Interaction with veterinarians and other constituents will be an integral part of the position. The successful candidate must have the DVM or equivalent degree and have attained or be eligible for board certification in the American College of Veterinary Behaviorist or the European College of Veterinary Behavioral Medicine. A PhD and experience in clinical behavior practice and research are desirable. ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - Pathobiology- The Board of Pathobiology at The University of Tennessee seeks applications for a tenure track or non-tenure track Clinical Pathologist position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position is held presently by a senior colleague who plans to retire in the Fall of 2008. The person hired will join two board certified clinical pathologists currently on the faculty.
